Ethan Robertson, tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones. Ethan grew up listening to real jazz around the house and at jazz clubs. Son of professional alto saxophonist and Palo Alto Jazz recording artist Paul Robertson, he has played at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Hague, Netherlands and at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Switzerland, during a Europe tour (with Russ). |
| Russ Haines, guitar. Russ has played many instruments professionally, from sackbut (a medieval trombone) to bluegrass banjo. Owning a 24-track post-production studio, author of Digital Audio, a book published in eight languages, and college instructor of courses in audio, video, and Internet streaming; he's a founding member of Severe Tire Damage, the first band on the Internet. |

Robert Kennedy, Rhodes piano and Hammond organ. A past student of Bay Area piano luminary Bill Bell, Robert helps create the core sound of Hip Pocket by avoiding digital samplers and piano modules. The energy and sound of a tube-amplified Rhodes piano or a Hammond organ through a Leslie speaker cabinet really do make a difference to the musicians playing and to the audience listening. Robert is 750cc Production Motorcycle champion for 2003, and 250cc Production champ in 2001 and 2002. |
| Mike Perkins, bass. Mike grew up in Los Angeles, earning money in recording sessions and playing in a disco band by the time he was in junior high school. He learned his jazz chords from LA session guitarist Howard Roberts and sitting in with various pickup bands in LA clubs. His father is a jazz drummer in Los Angeles. |

Casey Smiley, drums. Casey's the most recent addition to Hip Pocket, bringing a Smiley sensibility to the whole band. Casey also plays in a country band to enhance his chance of making it big in music if jazz doesn't pay off. |
